DAVE CROSSLAND
born in 1990 England.
Studied BA Interaction Design at Ravensbourne College in London.
Dave is amazed with the fact of having complete software freedom for graphic design and typography up to this day. As Dave was growing up his interest in typography grew with him. Crossland came to our University and gave our class a lecture about copyright, software and typography. Dave told us about Google fonts. not many students knew about it. It was created to give web fonts for free for anyone to use. This is a great creation from Google as they pay for you to use fonts created by designers without you having to sign any contracts or follow any copyright laws as it has been taken care of by Google. He also introduced a software called Font Forge. With Font Forge, you can slightly edit an existing font and then call it your own (if you have the right to). Code Academy teaches you how to script for free. after looking at the free software Dave mentioned , I noticed that there is only a slight difference between the expensive Adobe products and he free stuff. Programs equivalent to Photoshop, Illustrator etc. are worth learning.
A task was given to us, to draw a typeface/Font using the letters N, O & A and present it to the class. Using Fontforge we began exploring different areas of type regarding making characters and seeing the strategies that can be used to help with the creation and configuration of type. we then looked at the last four steps of creating a type face recommended by Dave Crossland:

Contract
Repetion
Allignment
Proportion
